• Crabapple Kitchen (Hawthorn)

In the midst of Glenferrie Road Hawthorn there are many cafes, some not so good, others fantastic.  Whilst I do not frequent the area enough to have my favourite haunts, I am slowly making discoveries that see me in this spot more often.

Crabapple Kitchen is a cute, friendly café near the train station with a variety of food.  We were three for brunch, with my friend’s young son coming along for the ride.

The sweet corn fritters arrived on a bed of smashed avocado and coverings of a chopped cucumber, red onion and tomato.  Haloumi was sliced and fried. It did not need the extra flavour of the lemon slice which came on the side.  The fritters themselves were more like dumplings made of a fluffy pancake-like dough.  The chilli was hidden in only a few mouthfuls and gave a kick when apparent.

Coffee was with a low froth and subtle taste.

The atmosphere of Crabapple kitchen is welcoming for groups, families and serious brunchers alike.  I enjoyed the meal and conversations in a relaxed vibe along Glenferrie Road.
