In the heart of Seddon, this place draws in locals, and is perhaps worth the drive for others too. I glanced through the Golden Books covered menu, feeling sorry for Brock from whom the book had been commandeered.
There are a number of interesting menu items, most with bacon and ham. I ordered the flourless chili corn bread labelled as “Sloth” in keeping with the theme name.
I was interested to see how the bread would turn out with ideas of almond meal chocolate and orange cakes. It was crumbly and sweet. Perhaps it did contain polenta as a substitute to flour deeming it corn bread, but it also had kernels along with strands of chili. The beans were spicy and flavoursomely calmed by avocado spiced with red onion. It was hearty and different to the eggs Florentine that I had almost ordered.
My friend enjoyed poached eggs with polenta and other sides including mushrooms and grilled tomatoes.
With seating at the front next to the wickedly enticing cake display, and more tables out the back, it somehow reminded me of Green’s Refectory. The vibe is relaxed and wholesome.
