• Ca de Vin

Set in the atmospheric laneway between Myer and the GPO, Ca de Vin suits workers and day-tripers alike.  It was lovely when the sun came out at the right angle so that the lane was brightened and warm.  Presenting itself as a classy, and even romantic, Italian restaurant (check out their website), it is a pity that the food is not as good.

I ordered the tartufo pizza with mushrooms, spinach, truffle oil, goats cheese and basalmic.  The base was crunchy and thin and seemed to have been pre-cooked.  The spinach was heated but not wilted.  There were lots of mushrooms.  The cheese was strong and plentiful.  The basalmic over powered the truffle oil if any was in fact used at all.  Overall, the flavours did not blend well and the dish was uninspiring.

Perhaps Ca de Vin could still be a nice spot for a glass of wine and a snack.  I had been previously for a drink and some saganaki.  As long as you are not eating a meal, it can still be enjoyable.
