Having lived in Japan for 6 months, I was very excited about the new Japanese place my brother had discovered on Glenferrie Road. He promised to take me to lunch there for my birthday and several months later, we both found time in our busy schedules for a Saturday lunch.
Stepping inside the tiny shopfront, I was transported back to Japan with an “Irashaimase”. The Japanense waitress and chef greeted us with friendly faces. I instantly relaxed. There were only a few vegetarian dishes.
I ordered the vegetarian lunch box. It included crispy and salty agedashi tofu, seaweed salad and a croquette. It was generous and delicious. The food was simple but lovely – reminiscent of Japanese home cooking but with a bit more flare.
Despite the wait I was not disappointed, and am eager to get another fix of authentic Japanese cooking soon.
